HOW I THINK ABOUT HEALING
One of the things I hear the most about healing is that people feel like they keep talking about the same thing over and over. That they are just going in a circle. But in my experience healing is a spiral. It winds up and down like the path of a bird moving on the wind. We return to the same spot on the spiral and while it might be the same place, we are slightly different.
“It is a radical act to slow down and be with all the parts of our stories. It is a radical act to be with all the facets of us that refract the light and show our unique beauty.”
I see healing as moving away from simplicity to write the parts of the story have we forgotten. It is a radical act to slow down and be with all the parts of our stories. It is a radical act to be with all the facets of us that refract the light and show our unique beauty. It is in the complexities and nuances, in the seeming contradictions and paradoxes that we find ourselves and find the path we are meant to walk.
If you're looking to do some deeper work that will help you step into your authentic self and feel more comfortable in your relationships, manage the stresses of capitalism and colonization - if you're looking for reclaim your own story we might be a good match.
We aren't really just writing the same paragraph - we are coming back to a familiar spot with a new understanding. We don't always feel different or notice the small shifts. It can take outside feedback or reflection from others - including a therapist - to point out what is new in our story as we come around again on this spiral.
Healing is about celebrating this movement. How can we not have many layers, many facets, many parts of our being that move as go through our lives? All of our identities, all the systems that impact us in respect to those identities, all of our experiences.
